Male Common Eider Somateria mollissima photo by Soheil Zendeh 27 January 2007: Normally, we expect to see 5000 - 8000 Common Eider in the Harbor, all the way out to Brewsters. This year (winter of 2006 - 2007) the numbers seem much lower. They are common and widespread, but the numbers didin't add up to more than 1200 or so. Also, they were scattered, rather than being concentrated in massive flocks as in years past.
